Michael Smuin Company

American choreographer Michael Smuin died last April at the age of 68. Lately his home—and much of his popularity—was based on the west coast of the U.S., though his name was known nationally. His company toured to the Joyce Theater in New York City in August with a programme featuring two of his last works. His style straddles Broadway and the classical—which makes for very accessible ballets that audiences seem to enjoy—though often critics of concert dance were less appreciative. Continue reading
